1990 Federal Floor Plan Transformed into an 1890 Federal Home

The Wiseman Group of San Francisco were hired by the client to totally renovate an existing home into something more authentic to its original 1890 architecture. The client and the design team wanted the house to look as it did when it was the original homestead structure on this piece of land that has since been developed.

Many design elements were removed and others added to give the home a turn-of-the-century feel. The following changes were made:

• Addition of a rear wraparound porch for outdoor shade
• Removal of the palladium window over the front door
• Forward extension of the entry and front
• Replacement of
all windows with true divided light mahogany windows
• Replacement of
all doors with mahogany doors
Creation of more formal gardens
Addition of outdoor sitting, both formal and informal
• Remodel of the bathrooms to include free-standing tubs and classic plumbing fixtures

In addition, specially designed molding was installed throughout the home, and - to bring the outdoors in - French doors were added to each room leading to the rear of the home.

A state-of-the-art Crestron home management system was installed to properly control security, audio, lighting, temperature and the televisions.

This job was broken down into three phases to accommodate the client’s needs and family summer vacation plans. The client, the interior design team and RKH all worked together to set the budget for each phase.

Working with design team members in several cities and states, we at RKH are able to coordinate our efforts through onsite email and cad drawings sent via the web. RKH field personnel prepare sketches and photographs, which are then sent to the necessary consultants; this keeps the project on a seamless schedule. A continuous stream of information links the jobsite to the consultants and the architect to the jobsite.

Coordinating among all consultants through this team approach, RKH was able to promise and deliver to the client this beautiful home remodel and restoration.
